Standard I: Strategic Leadership
School executives will create conditions that result in strategically re-imaging the school's vision, mission, and goals in the 21st century. Understanding that schools ideally prepare students for an unseen but not altogether predictable future, the leader creates a climate of inquiry that challenges the school community to continually re-purpose itself by building on it core values and beliefs about its preferred future and then developing a pathway to reach it.
A. School Vision, Mission and Strategic Goals: The school’s identity, in part, is derived from the vision, mission, values, beliefs and goals of the school, the processes used to establish these attributes, and the ways they are embodied in the life of the school community.
Assessing and Enhancing a School's Identity
Distinguished Leadership Practice (DLP) Assignment 1 allowed me the opportunity to asses the aspects of my first semester residency site's mission, vision, values, beliefs, goals, and processes used. From this experience I understand how to and why assessing the current status of a school is in important. From this experience I will be able to assess the current status of status of my school placement and be able to identify the most important top 3-5 steps to take to facilitate improvement.
B. Leading Change: The school executive articulates a vision and implementation strategies for improvements and changes which result in improved achievement for all students.
My School Vision
The below artifact exhibits my ability to create a vision to share my expectations and facilitate the change to mold the vision into a reality. I will be able to articulate and present my vision to my staff including expectations in a collaborative fashion.
The First 90 Days
To take charge successfully, one must have a clear understanding of the situation being faced and the implications for what needs to be done and how to do it. From the creation of this presentation in collaboration with my fellow cohort member, Mary Bridgers, as a school executive I will be able to create and implement a plan of action for the first 90 days on the job based on the school status.
