Standard VI: External Development Leadership
A. Parent and Community Involvement and Outreach: The school Executive designs structures and processes which result in parent and community engagement, support and ownership for the school.
Grant Writing
My Triple A Grant includes partnering with schools and businesses in the community to increase student achievement and build self confidence in students during the transition from elementary school to middle school. This is an example to show that I am prepared to design structures and processes which will result in parent and community engagement to increase student achievement and build culture.
Empowerment
I facilitated a Parent Advisory Committee meeting to empower parents and other stakeholders to make significant decisions as well as built relationship with individuals to support specific aspects of learning. At this meeting parents shared their concerns for their children who are being served under the Exceptional Children's (EC) umbrella. As a result of their sharing, in collaboration with my principal mentor and Central Office staff, we scheduled a session to meet the needs of our parents.
Due to this experience, I will able to increase parental engagement by facilitating relevant Parent Meetings to provide resources and tools to assist parents to meet the needs of their children.

Follow-up
Community Involvement Pictures
As a result of co-facilitating Community Schooling: Paving the Way Forward! at the Rural Education National Forum and 108th NREA Convention and Research Symposium in Columbus, Ohio with Magnus Hemans I will be able to:
- foster relationships with stakeholders in the community
- create partnerships with business partners
- create a resource bank through networking
B. Federal, State and District mandates: The school executive designs executive protocols and processes in order to comply with federal, state and district mandates.
In discussion with DPI Transformation Coach, Saysha Carter and collaboration with HCSD Associate Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, I designed the following District Learning Walk Tool for implementation. As an effective instructional leader, I will be able to have conversations about teaching and learning with district and state officials to help design, create, and implement district wide initiatives.
School Law Case Briefs
I acquired a working knowledge base and legal literacy associated with education law as an invaluable tool. I also learned general pedagogy and experienced practical application of school law (see the below). As an instructional leader I will be able to use my knowledge base to guide educational and disciplinarian decisions.
